What Residential Dumpster Rental Actually Covers
Most household jobs are bulky rather than heavy, which means the walls fill before the weight allowance does. That is the opposite of a roofing or masonry job, and it changes which size you should book.

Volume Fills This One, Not Weight
The number that decides a household job
Household debris runs 150 to 250 pounds a cubic yard. Every standard container allows 200. So on furniture, boxes and general clutter, you run out of room before you run out of weight. Size a cleanout on volume and you will be right.
- Furniture and boxes150 to 250 lb per cubic yard, so volume decides
- Carpet and underlayPacks down small, and lighter than it looks
- Tile and plaster400 to 500 lb per cubic yard, where weight starts to decide
| Material | Pounds per cubic yard | A 20 yard is full at | Container |

| Carpet and underlay | About 200 | Volume runs out first | Any roll-off |

Questions
Residential Dumpster Rental Questions
What size dumpster do I need for a house cleanout?
A 15 yard covers most whole-room clearances, and a 20 yard covers several rooms or a full property. Household contents are bulky and light, so you fill the box long before you trouble the weight allowance. The exception is a bathroom or a tiled floor, where the mortar bed makes it a weight job rather than a volume one.
Do I need to be home for the delivery?
No. Tell us where you want it and describe the spot when you book, and the driver will place it without you there. What helps is a clear approach. The truck needs about 60 feet of straight clearance, and nothing parked in the way.
Will a dumpster damage my driveway?
Not in normal use. The container sits on rails rather than wheels, and the weight spreads across the length of it. On a newly sealed or decorative surface, ask for driveway protection when you book and the driver puts boards under the rails. It is available for an additional charge and it is worth it on anything you would not want a scuff on.
How long can I keep it?
Standard containers include 7 days on site, which covers most household jobs without rushing. Extra days run $15 per day. Call before the pickup date and it is straightforward. On a longer project a swap partway through often costs less than extending.
What cannot go in from a house?
Liquid paint, motor oil, fuel, car batteries and propane tanks are all refused at the disposal facility, whoever hauls them. Concrete, dirt and sod need the heavy container rather than a roll-off. Mattresses and tires go in and carry a per-item fee.
