A sod dumpster starts at $375 and includes 3 tons of weight on a 3 days rental. It takes cut sod, turf and the soil attached to it. Green waste with no soil on it is a yard waste job and goes in a standard roll-off instead.
Sod catches people out because it looks like garden waste and weighs like soil. Saturated turf runs 2,200 to 2,600 pounds a cubic yard, which is heavier than most broken concrete.

The container is deliberately only 3 ft high. That is a safety limit built into the box rather than a rule we enforce afterwards, because a deeper container would let somebody load more than the truck can legally lift. Fill it level and you are inside it.
Past 3 tons, extra weight is billed at $145 per ton against a certified scale ticket, which we will send with the invoice on request.

Can you put sod in a dumpster?
Yes, in the heavy material container rather than a standard roll-off. Sod comes up with soil attached and saturated turf runs 2,200 to 2,600 pounds a cubic yard, which is heavier than most broken concrete. A general roll-off is over its allowance long before the box looks full.
How much sod fits in the heavy container?
Roughly 2,700 square feet of lawn stripped at about an inch of root and soil, which works out at 10 cubic yards. Cut it thinner and you fit more. The number moves a lot with how deep the blade runs and how wet the ground is, so it is worth telling us the lawn area rather than guessing at yards.
Is sod the same as yard waste?
Not for pricing, and the difference is soil. Branches, hedge cuttings and leaves are bulky and light, so they go in a standard roll-off and space runs out first. Sod carries its root ball and the dirt attached to it, which makes it one of the heaviest loads we take. If both are going, they are two different containers.
