Sizing

How to Choose the Right Dumpster Rental for Your Project

Sizing by the pile is how people end up with two containers. Size by the material instead.

Ask what the debris is, not how much there is

Almost every sizing mistake starts the same way: someone looks at the pile, estimates the volume, and books to it. That works for furniture and boxes and fails for everything else.

Space and weight bind independently. A container full of household clutter runs out of room first. A container taking shingles, tile or plaster runs out of allowance first and looks half empty doing it. Which one you are is decided by the material, not the quantity.

The rough guide, and where it breaks

A 10 yard suits one room emptied or a bathroom stripped. A 15 covers a packed garage or a kitchen coming out. A 20 handles a tear-off or several rooms at once.

It breaks the moment the job includes anything dense. A tile floor lifting brings the mortar bed with it. A roof brings 250 pounds per square. And concrete, dirt or sod do not belong in a roll-off at any size, because they need a container rated for triple the weight.

Every container, with dimensions and the allowance attached to each, is on the dumpster sizes and weight limits page.

When two containers beat one bigger one

Past what a 20 yard holds, there is no larger box to move up to. The answer is a swap: an empty container replaces the full one and the job keeps going.

On a demolition producing both masonry and general debris, two containers is not an upsell. The two materials go to different facilities, so one mixed load is neither, and it gets repriced as general waste at the gate.

If you are between two sizes

Take the larger one. The price difference between a 15 and a 20 is a fraction of what a second haul costs, and a container you did not fill is a cheaper mistake than one you could not close.

Describe the job when you book and we will say which way to go. Every city we deliver to has its own page under service areas with the local details.

What size dumpster do most homeowners book?

The 15 yard, and it is the right default for a reason. It handles a full garage, a kitchen remodel or several rooms of general clutter, and it takes the same driveway space as a 20 because both are 14 feet long. If the job includes a tile floor or a roof, step up.
